Legendary Gypsy singer Zhenya Shevchenko celebrates her 80-th Birthday by singing popular Gypsy songs and romances.
Zhenya (Eugenia Pavlovna) will perform her favorite Gypsy repertoire with live accompaniment of the best Russian Gypsy musicians (balalaika, violin, gypsy guitar, classic guitar, bayan, balalaika-contrabass and garmoshka).
Ensemble Barynya will perform Russian, Ukrainian, Cossack and Russian Gypsy traditional dances, songs and music including Barynya, Hopak, Gypsy Dance Two Guitars, Yablochko (Dance of Russian
Sailor’s), Kazanka, Kalinka, Cossack dance Varenka, Dark Eyes, Russian Tongue Twisters, The Moon is Shining Brightly, and more.
Queen of Gypsy Romance Zhenya Shevchenko is a native of Kiyev, Ukraine.

Shevchenko Zhenya (Eugenia Pavlovna) - performer of Russian and Gypsy (Roma) songs and romances from New York City. She worked at some best NYC restaurants. She was born in Kiev in 1927, in 1942 immigrated with her family to Prague. She has a unique voice - deep contralto. In the United States she took voice lessons from L.F. Shalyapina. In Paris she was working as a singer and dancer in restaurant "Balalaika", where she learned a few songs from Gypsy chanson genius Alyosha Dimitrievich. For some time she was a makeup consultant for Jacqueline Kennedy. In 1956 she was in the movie "Anastasia" with Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner - in restaurant scene she is singing "Moscow, the Gold Domed One..." ("Maskva Zlatoglavaya"). In 1992 she was touring in Russia where she recorded two compact disks titled "The Queen of Gypsy Song" ("Koroleva Tsyganskoi Pesni").
Russian music, song and dance ensemble "Barynya" is a unique group of top soloists: musicians, singers and dancers who were trained and performed with Don Cossacks of Rostov, Andreev State symphonic balalaika orchestra, Moscow State center of "Russian Song". Artistic Director Mikhail Smirnov.
