Russian song, dance, and music ensemble Barynya performed a school concert on Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Phoenix Academy, 3151 Stony Street, Shrub Oak, NY (New York).
Dancers performed traditional Russian dances "Kalinka", Nanai Siberian Sumo dance, "Bear Dance".
Artistic Director and Founder of the ensemble Barynya, folk singer, musician, and ethnomusicologist, Mikhail Smirnov played garmoshka, performed Russian tongue-twisters, folk songs "Katyusha", "Koroboshka", and provided explanation of the program in English.
Mikhail talked briefly about costumes, folk instruments, Russian traditions, explained the difference between Russian and English alphabet.
Musical director of the group Elina Karokhina performed a few medleys on Russian folk string instrument balalaika, danced Siberian folk dance "Metelitsa" ("The Snowstorm").
Dancers, singers, musicians of Russian dance and music ensemble Barynya are available for hire for the Performing Art Centers, festivals, schools, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups and combinations.
