Bristol Consolidated School in Pemaquid is celebrating Diversity Week this week. This is the 17th year of Diversity Week, and this week the school is focusing on learning Russian culture. As part of the program, the Russian group Barynya has come to the school to teach students dance and music. Students will be able to show off what they've learned during a performance with Barynya on Friday, May 16th at 6:30 at Brisol Consolidated School.
Established in 1991, ensemble Barynya presents Russian, Cossack and Jewish traditional dancing and music on instruments including the balalaika, balalaika contrabass, guitar and garmoshka.
Barynya has been invited to perform at some of the most prestigious cultural venues in the U.S., including Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, the United Nations, the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Ensemble Barynya is available for hire for performing art centers, school assemblies, festivals, colleges, libraries, children's programs, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups.
