Russian traditional dance, song, and music ensemble Barynya presented one hour program of Russian, Cossack, Siberian, Gypsy Roma, Ukrainian, Jewish songs, music and dances on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Neumann College located at One Neumann Drive in Aston, PA 19014. Ensemble Barynya cast included Elina Karokhina (balalaika, dance, vocals),
Mikhail Smirnov (garmoshka, guitar, vocals, costumed charachters),
Alisa (dancer), Gosha (dancer, costume charachters).
The program of performances included Russian songs and dances: "Barynya (Барыня)", "Moroz-Moroz (Ой, мороз, мороз)", "Katyusha (Катюша)", "Moscow Nights (Подмосковные вечера)", "The Peddler (Коробейники)", "Kalinka (Калинка)", Dr. Zhivago Lara's Theme, Russian Tongue Twisters, "Felt Boots" (Валенки),
Ukrainian song and dance "Pidmanula" (Ты ж мене пидманула), Russian Gypsy Romani songs and dances: "Dark Eyes (Очи Черные)", "Two Guitars (Две гитары)", "The Long Road (Дорогой длинною)", Jewish songs "Seven Forty (Семь Сорок)", live performances on garmoshka, balalaika, and guitar.
Established in 1991, ensemble Barynya presents Russian, Cossack and Jewish traditional dancing and music on instruments including the balalaika, balalaika contrabass, guitar and garmoshka. Barynya has been invited to perform at some of the most prestigious cultural venues in the U.S., including Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, the United Nations and the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Ensemble Barynya is available for hire for the performing art centers, school assemblies, festivals, colleges, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups.
