Three members of Russian dance, song and music
ensemble "Barynya" performed a concert of Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Gypsy songs, music, and dances at the Staten Island Children’s Museum on Wednesday, July 31st, 2013. The concert was a part of series called "Boogie Woogie Wednesday". Exact address of the Staten Island Children’s Museum: 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, New York 10301-1181. The program of performance included famous Russian table song "Father Frost" ("Oi, Moroz, Moroz") with accompaniment of garmoshka, "Balalaika Medley", "Russian Tongue Twisters", Ukrainian traditional song and dance "Pidmanula", Russian song "Katyusha", Russian Gypsy song and dances "The Long Road" ("Dorogoi Dlinnoyu"), "Two Guitars", Siberian song and dance "Metelitsa" ("The Snowstorm")", "Russian dance lesson", "Russian Alphabet lesson", "Chardash", and other selections. Ensemble Barynya cast: Mikhail Smirnov (garmoshka, guitar, vocals),
Elina Karokhina (balalaika, vocals, dance),
Valentina Kvasova (singer, dancer). Established in 1991, ensemble Barynya presents Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Russian Gypsy Roma, and Jewish traditional dancing and music on instruments including the balalaika, balalaika contrabass, guitar and garmoshka. Barynya has been invited to perform at some of the most prestigious cultural venues in the U.S., including Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, the United Nations, and the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Ensemble Barynya is available for hire for the performing art centers, school assemblies, festivals, colleges, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups.
