Singers, musicians and dancers of Russian dance, song and music ensemble Barynya provided one hour performances at the Staten Island Children’s Museum during Boogie Woogie Wednesdays program series. Concert was free and open to public. It took place on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019 at 7pm. The program of performance included several dance selections (Cossack dance, Kalinka, Barynya, Jewish Wedding dance with candle, Ukrainian dance Hopak, Tatar dance, Polka), instrumental musical numbers, live performances on garmoshka (Russian button accordion), and balalaika, traditional Russian songs, Russian dance workshop, and other selections. Cast of Barynya ensemble included ensemble Barynya yongest members dancers Victor and Victoria, folk dancer Alisa, balalaika virtuoso Elina Karokhina, and Russian ethnomusicologist, folk singer, garmoshka - Russian folk button accordion - player Mikhail Smirnov who led the performance by giving a short explanation of every number of the program in English. Mikhail talked briefly about costumes, instruments, traditions, and performed several Russian tongue-twisters.
Dancer Alisa performed "Barynya", "Kalinka", "Hopak", Jewish wedding dance with candle, Siberian, Gypsy, Cossack, and other selections. Musicians performed Russian favorite songs like "Peddlers", "Long Road", "Moscow Nights", "Katyusha", Dr. Zhivago, and others.
Ensemble Barynya is available for hire for Performing Art Centers, school assemblies, festivals, colleges, universities, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups.
Performance of traditional Moldovan dance during wedding reception at the Rockwood Park Carriage House in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, February 16th, 2019. Cast of dancers included Vladimir Nikitin, Valentina Kvasova, Konstantin Tulinov, and Olga Chpitalnaia. Dancers performed Russian folk dance "Kalinka", two Jewish wedding dance routines (Bottle dance, Candle dance), and traditional dance from Moldova (an Eastern European country and former Soviet republic).
